This web site celebrates the stories and history of the men who built the first road across the Blue Mountains in NSW Australia in 1814.
The statues, which are in Lilianfels Park, near Echo Point in Katoomba, have QR codes which you can scan to hear their stories.
Please be advised that the soundscapes performed by our actors are fictional.
For full information on William Cox and the construction of the road from Emu Plains to Bathurst in 1814-15, please check the WIKIPEDIA and COX ROAD DREAMING websites. Many of the convicts who worked on construction of the road are named in these sites.
Please also be advised that the original team of roadbuilders under William Cox did not have to wear “irons” but they were used on maintenance teams after initial construction was finished.
If you have stumbled upon this page but you are not at the statues with the QR codes, you can use the links at the bottom of the page to listen.
This is a project by the Katoomba Rotary Club.
Our Projects include helping our homeless, community members in need and young peoples’ projects. Could you help us with a few dollars?
